Plant Spotlight: Red Beauty Holly (Ilex x ‘Rutzan’)
This evergreen shrub can be used as a specimen or in a hedge row with dark green glossy foliage topped with bright red berries that maintains an upright, dense, conical form with little to no pruning. Needs a male pollinizer nearby though, such as Blue Maid Holly to develop berries. Thriving in rich well-drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil, and for all the nature lover’s holly berries are a valuable food source to birds and other animals.

Water deeply, regularly during first growing season to establish an extensive root system; reduce frequency, once established.
